PCOS Awareness Month

September is PCOS awareness month.

A lot of awareness is now coming out on this syndrome.  Not many people know or understand it.  Tonight on the hit show “This Is Us” it grazed across the topic, barely.  PCOS is so much, but infertility is one of the symptoms.  The show spoke on a couple going to an infertility doctor, being turned away due to the woman’s weight.  Not only does the lady fight with PCOS, she is also over weight, and in her late thirties.  Three red flags for infertility.

The hardest part about PCOS is that it starts at an early age.  For me, I was 15 years old when I first found out about it.  At 17 one of the signs I had was gall bladder trouble.  That year, I had gall bladder surgery due to the fact that it had quit functioning.  PCOS has so many signs and symptoms, but no cure.

PCOS if FINALLY getting some press release and the recognition it deserves.

Not only are tv shows and celebrities talking about it, but Women’s Health and Glamour Magazine.  Most Missed Women’s Diseases by Doctors

We even have Science involved trying to solve the Mysteries of Infertility

Also, social media took a small /frenzy with “Madge the Vag” from scarymommy.com

Now, I know my grandmother would be mortified with such topics… “we just don’t discuss these things.” But ladies, if we don’t discuss how can we learn? How can we relate and support each other?  So many diseases are talked about and have research for decades, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.  Why are we now just talking about infertility?  Women of the century, we have our movements of “me too” and “equal rights.” Why not our health?

My fellow “cyst-ers” we are becoming known.  For 20 years I have known about my syndrome, but have never felt “ok” to talk about it nor have I had the support I needed.  There is now a site specifically for PCOS awareness  PCOS Awareness Association

Please share some of your other favorite websites, and “symptom containers” in the comments below.
I would love to hear from you all!
